Abstract
Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) is vital for understanding the hydrologic cycle and predicting runoff from snowpack. However, established SWE measurement systems are costly and limited in spatial resolution. Recently, millimeter-wave FMCW devices have become increasingly available and affordable. Characterizing the performance of mmWave radar devices for SWE measurement is the first step for integration into low-cost weather monitoring stations. This work presents a preliminary investigation into a low-cost 60 GHz FMCW system for snowpack analysis.
