Abstract

MatchUp is a mobile application designed to connect college students through shared recreational and athletic interests. Many students struggle to find someone to play sports with, which can limit their social connection and lead to a sense of isolation and loneliness on campus. To address this problem, MatchUp provides a user-friendly platform where students can create accounts, make profiles, post activity listings, and browse through filtered events to find games or activities that match their interests, availability, and skill level. The app was developed using Android Studio for the front end and Firebase for authentication and data management. Survey responses from over 75 students confirmed that difficulty finding peers, lack of motivation, and not knowing others are common barriers to participating in activities. Overall, MatchUp creates a solution for reducing social barriers, increasing student engagement, and creating a sense of belonging on campus.
