Abstract
Angular quantization in conformal field theory (CFT), when applied to string theory, allows for the description of a new type of strings called "stretched strings", which are distinct from open and closed strings. In this work, we study the compact free boson in 2d CFT with asymptotic momentum and winding charges. We compute the mode expansion for this compact boson, obtain its quantization, and describe a classical background which satisfies the asymptotic conditions.
