Abstract

The UNH SAE Baja team is a student oriented, offroad team with an end goal of successfully making it to competition hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers. For this to be possible, the design process of a capable, off road vehicle must be treated as a business. To avoid point deduction or disqualification in competition, the manufactured vehicle must fully comply with the 2023 National Baja SAE rule book, issued by the 2022 rule committee. On the date of May 4th, 2023, the vehicle will begin the first of five competition sub categories in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and finish on May 7th. These five events will test the durability, performance, comfort, aesthetic and overall business approach of the vehicle. The competition judges will score the teams work and determine its deserved place out of one hundred national teams. Vehicle design was made possible with 3D modeling, suspension and FAE software. All manufacturing was preformed by the students in the provided UNH machine shop in Kingsbury hall. Each subgroup has preformed testing to ensure the functionality and safety of each design. Prior to competition, the completed vehicle will be put to the test in simulated competition track with scale obstacles.
