Abstract
Team 8 of the UNH Senior Capstone Group was selected to provide engineering consultation for the City of Concord and HDR for the extension of Whitney Road, located in Concord, NH continuing to Monitor Drive. This extension will include pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, proper storm water best management practices (BMP’s), as well as two stream crossings. Research was conducted into various alternatives for all aspects of the project. The selected alternatives were decided based off various factors such as cost, feasibility, and constructability. The alternative determined for Burnham Brook was a concrete box culvert. The roadway typical section was designed as two travel lanes, a separate shared use path, with vertical and horizontal alignments staying close to the existing path. The chosen alternative for the Hayward Brook crossing was a three-panel box culvert with an arch and MSE walls. A combination of BMPs was chosen in order effectively handle stormwater on the roadway.
