Producing flexible prototypes such as buttons and overmolds can be a difficult process, and outsourcing production can be expensive and have long lead times. Currently, we can 3D print flexible parts using flexible stereolithography (SLA) resins. But material choice is limited, with no color choice, and print quality is inconsistent. Molds were designed and 3D printed using a clear SLA resin with a much higher print quality, and these molds were used to cast flexible parts using a pourable urethane rubber. Testing on various buttons and overmolds throughout the year have shown this method to be feasible to supplement current production methods at Galvion.
