Abstract

Hutchinson Sealing Systems is responsible for the mass production of window seals for the 2021 Honda Pilot. Hutchinson primarily uses FANUC M-710iC six-axis robots for its manufacturing processes. Each robot is contained within an automated cell, responsible for a particular step in the assembly. The team was tasked to design a transportation mechanism to move two subassemblies (the division bar and the corner model) of the window seal assembly from one cell to the next. To do this effectively, the transportation mechanism must be efficient, low cost, robot compatible, and high in part density.
