Abstract

This project explored the experiences of adults with disabilities who rely on direct care workers (DCWs) for in-home support. In partnership with People First and SALT (The Self-Advocacy Leadership Team), organizations led by individuals with disabilities, this project aimed to strengthen outreach, elevate lived experiences, and increase awareness of the role of DCWs in supporting independence and community inclusion. Additional themes that emerged include the central role of self-advocacy in navigating services and shaping care and the vulnerability required of adults with disabilities in working with DCWs.
