Abstract

The revolution of smartphone technology opened a new avenue for college students to keep themselves safe using uSafeUS®, a college campus safety and wellness app. The app has features for exiting uncomfortable situations and finding resources to address sexual violence and other situations after they have occurred. However, there is limited research assessing its efficacy. My thesis seeks to answer the question “How does a college campus safety and wellness app help its users navigate two types of situations?”. The two types of situations are (1) exiting or getting help in uncomfortable situations and (2) directing users to appropriate resources to help themselves or a friend. The findings obtained from my research will be used to further the development of uSafeUS® for improved usability.
