Abstract
The Town of Chesterfield, New Hampshire desires redevelopment of the former Electrosonics building and property on Route 9A. The building is experiencing severe structural deterioration after being abandoned for 30 years, and the property has a variety of contamination concerns after a history of industrial use. The student team, with the guidance of Weston and Sampson company sponsors, as well as department advisors Lisa Damiano and Ken Flesher, plans to propose different future usages while recommending structural and environmental remediation plans. The scope of this project included site visit observations, code review commentary, proposed design development plans, structural calculations and reinforcement recommendations, environmental remediation schematics, and cost estimates. Factors including traffic volume, insufficient site area, limiting property boundaries, wetland permitting, hazardous environmental concerns, cost, lack of public utilities, and current structural integrity were all considered. Three alternatives were developed; elderly housing, a café / general store with an upstairs apartment, and a restaurant with a function room upstairs. A decision matrix was used to compare the options, with the cafe and apartment being most suitable. The project concluded with finalized design development plans, using Revit, a finalized environmental remediation plan and preliminary cost estimate.
