Untangling the Policy: A Perspective

Understanding the legislative process, who key stakeholders are, and discovering ways to promote and support public policy is crucial to changing systems impacting outcomes for developmentally disabled individuals. Community Crossroads is an area agency under CSNI, Community Support Network, Inc. CSNI is part of the Disability Roundtable. The New Hampshire Disability Roundtable consists of key advocacy groups, working together to advocate for/against legislation, as a collective, that impact the welfare of the developmentally disabled within the state. CSNI is the association of the ten Area Agencies in New Hampshire providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities and acquired brain disorders. New Hampshire has a rich history of family advocacy which has driven positive change throughout the state. It is easy to access our representatives, as there are 400 in the small state of New Hampshire. Learning the NH legislative process, building relationships with legislators, getting information on upcoming bills, supporting or opposing bills and providing testimony are all ways to advocate for the developmentally disabled, improving quality of life for all those who reside in the Granite State.
