Abstract

The mission of this capstone project was to build the ultimate recreational electric vehicle using the existing design of a gas-powered Crosskart. Utilizing the robust and lightweight frame of a Crosskart and the unique characteristics of electric motors, we intend to build a fast, nimble and exhilarating racing machine. Our choice of the Crosskart frame is rooted in its exceptional power-to-weight ratio and driving condition versatility. Being just large enough to house the electric components, the frame is small and light, allowing the driver to have a more intimate connection with the propulsion system. With a fully enclosed cockpit and long travel suspension, the Crosskart is ideal for any dirt or asphalt track we wish to demonstrate on. Additionally, Crosskart frames are known for their simplicity and ease of repair, allowing us to perform modifications and repairs quickly. Finally, by using a preexisting frame, our efforts are focused on the electrical components-- significantly enhancing our chances of success.
