Abstract

The Town of Warren requested a highway garage be designed for them. There were unique challenges in this process due to a tight budget, needing public support, and using available town resource. The team had a budget of $1.1 million to meet the client’s needs. With the construction of the new garage, municipal facilities would be improved and brought closer together. The Town does not have a public water supply, so the team was tasked with finding a reliable water supply for the building. However, there were concerns about potential contamination from the transfer station site, which was previously a landfill. All of this had to be considered when designing our site, foundation, and framing plans. To start our work, the team was given existing conditions plans and aerial imaging to help prepare alternative designs. During the team's site visit on October 20, 2023, culverts were identified, additional structures were noted, and permitting information was gained that led to conclusions about the site and alternative designs. As of today, the team has designed a foundation, framing, and site plan sheet set for the client. A cost estimate is also provided to the client.
