EAST undertook a community-focused senior project aimed at facilitating positive change. Partnering with Northeast Passage, a local adaptive sports organization, we identified a client named Ann who sought a solution to enjoy cross-country skiing despite physical limitations from an injury. After thorough consultations with Ann, we determined her preference for a cross-country skiing adaptation akin to her current recumbent electric tricycle. Our team diligently formulated specifications, secured funding, and procured materials for the project concurrent with design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing phases. With strong community engagement, we garnered essential support to realize our goal. Despite welcomed challenges, including design enhancements and fabrication complexities, EAST successfully delivered Ann's electric adaptive ski trike, comprising eight custom-made parts. This innovative solution now empowers her to actively engage in winter sports alongside her family again.
