Abstract

Bridge No. 116/140, spanning Baboosic Brook on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Merrimack, NH, requires replacement to address hydraulic and traffic capacity issues. The proposed three-lane structure, heavy influenced by the hydraulic analysis, uses phased construction and composite welded-steel plate girders. The proposed deep pile foundations and integral abutments ensure the bridge's stability. Project goals include culvert replacement and highway widening as well as consideration of constructibility and cost. Regulatory permits have also been identified to address possible environmental impacts. This project exemplifies the seamless integration of engineering innovation and environmental responsibility, encompassing thorough consideration of superstructure and substructure alternatives, thereby promising safer, more efficient, and environmentally conscious infrastructure.
