The goal of this project was to develop a remediation plan for a site in the Great Lakes Region that was formerly home to a manufactured gas plant. Manufactured gas plants were before natural gas became commonly available in the 1960's to provide the nation with a source of energy. Contaminants including VOCs and PAHs were detected in both the groundwater and soil. A permeable reactive barrier was chosen to treat the groundwater, and slurry walls and a cap were chosen to contain soil contamination. The project will cost the client approximately $3.75 million.
