Abstract

Because it is neither tactile nor visible, the magnetic field can be difficult to learn about, especially for young people. This project aims to change that by modeling data from NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission in virtual reality using the game engine Unity, utilizing an environment originally built by UNH CCOM. Though reconstruction code from the MMS team already exists, data formatting with programs such as Python and Matlab was necessary to format .csv files into binary vector field files to be read by Unity. Applications of this project also include modeling magnetic reconnection events for further study.
