Abstract

The University of New Hampshire has had the vision to connect North Drive and Strafford Avenue via an underpass beneath the Boston/Maine Railroad since the UNH 2012 Master Plan was developed. GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc. Has been working with UNH to provide their engineering expertise. The underpass is intended to improve transportation efficiency around campus while also managing contaminated soil and ground water. Team 16 has spent the past 2 semesters utilizing provided field data to develop a soil/groundwater management strategy, partially design the underpass, structurally secure the railway during construction, gather stakeholder input, and research required permits for construction. The collective work of every team member will be on display at the Undergraduate Research Conference.
