Abstract
The goal of this project was to build a hybrid rocket, powered by paraffin wax and nitrous oxide, capable of launching a 9 pound payload to 10,000 feet and participating in the Spaceport America challenge. To manage the many requirements for a successful rocket the team was split into four sections - Avionics, Frame, Propulsion, and Recovery.
The rocket was completed on time, but with less thrust than would allow it to reach 10,000 feet and with a simple “deadweight” payload. The project will be continued next year, and that year’s team will be able to build on the current rocket in order to launch at Spaceport America.
