Abstract

The main goal of this project was to be able to create a detachable traction device that would help keep construction workers safer while walking in icy conditions. A few competitor types have already been established so these were used as a benchmark in testing and design research. Different attachments, spike types and design of the prototypes themselves were researched as well as getting insight from Timberland Pro. Four different prototypes were created and were simply tested by wearing each of them. After this initial testing, one prototype was decided to be ruled out. The next step was to go to the Dover Ice Arena to perform more real-life scenario testing which finally helped decide on the final design, attachment and spike type. This final product will allow the workers to be safe while allowing quick on and off times while using it.
