The “Cost Effective Beat Frequency Oscillator Metal Detector” uses a Colpitts oscillator with an inductor-capacitor tank circuit determining the operating frequency. When the detector is introduced to metal the operating frequency changes. This change in frequency is detected with a microcontroller. This detector uses older analog detector technology combined with modern digital signal processing technology. Utilizing cost effective parts, the detector has the capability to detect coins and other metal objects up to seven inches away.
