Abstract

The coastal waters of New England are home to a wide abundance of fish and invertebrate species. Researchers here at the University of New Hampshire are striving to gain trends for various marine life species. The implementation of a live-stream camera feed will provide researchers with continuous footage in real time that will be beneficial in assessing for fine-scale population changes. This will facilitate work on species phenology, population dynamics, and behavior. The camera will be mounted in a sub-tidal habitat off the coast of Appledore Island at the Isle of Shoals and will be maintained by the Shoals Marine Laboratory. The longevity of this build is pivotal to the overall goal of the project. To be used to its full potential, the camera has been outfitted for a long-term deployment. The platform’s modular design also provides future research projects the accessibility to a valuable subsea environment.
