Abstract
Industrial manufacturing plants can impact their surroundings long after being demolished. Groundwater and soil contamination threaten the health of the environment as well as future users of the site, and poor soil quality prevents easy redevelopment of the land. The goal of this project is to conduct an environmental and geotechnical analysis of the former site of a manufactured gas plant in Waltham, MA on the bank of the Charles River, and provide recommendations for remediation and foundation design to help a client safely and effectively repurpose the site from industrial to residential.
