Abstract

This senior project was concerned with researching, designing, building and testing a one-way voice communication link using free space as the channel. It consisted of three major components: a transmitter, a channel, and receiver. The transmitter had an infrared LED. The audio signal was used to modulate the intensity of the LED. It was passed through a collimator made of two convex lenses which was the channel. The main component of the receiver was an infrared phototransistor. The amplified signal was filtered and sent to a speaker.
