Abstract

The goal of this project is to prevent lateral mixing of airflow between stationary individuals throughout enclosed settings in the University of New Hampshire. The methods for preventing lateral mixing of the airflow include but are not limited to: identifying the mixing before it reaches filtration, optimizing airflow patterns, and creating curtain-like structures. Computational Fluid Dynamics software, ANSYS-Fluent, will be used to model the airflow of the enclosed spaces and determine where passive barriers will be located for the most efficiency. The airflow from the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system will be a strong indicator of how the air patterns should be optimized, as it will pick up droplets from individuals on its current and proliferate the particles throughout the room if the cross patterns are not modified.
