The intention of this project was to design, construct, and test a cost-effective method to collect and map distance data three-dimensionally. The system encompasses both hardware and software developments, with physical design, measurement coding, and data processing being the most prominent stages. The finished project uses a microcontroller to mechanically adjust the system and record data of the surrounding environment with the Garmin LidarLite v3. Live data is collected and displayed using serial communication to a computer to view a constantly updated plot in MATLAB.
