Title:

Jesuits in Power Armor: Catholicism and Warhammer 40k

Video

Abstract

This is a trimmed-down version of the presentation I gave at NeMLA, the Northeast Modern Language Association, in a panel focused on Jesuits in science fiction. The main focus of the presentation is relating the Catholic Jesuit, a warrior-priest, to the iconic Space Marine in the tabletop war game Warhammer 40k. Specifically, my research is focused on how both of these roles can only be undertaken by men, and how misogyny intersects with both religious beliefs and science fictional game lore.
