Abstract

The University of New Hampshire's Computer Science (CS) department previously utilized a Discord bot for tasks like attendance tracking and breakout room management. However, the bot's functionality was called into question due to its incompatibility with university IT policies, necessitating a transition to Microsoft Teams. Our group, Tools for Teams, was tasked with developing a Microsoft Teams bot that replicates these essential functions while ensuring compliance with university standards. This involved designing features for efficient attendance management and breakout room creation, using the Microsoft Bot Framework and Teams APIs. We addressed challenges by collaborating with UNH administrators and Microsoft representatives to obtain access to a Microsoft developer sandbox and to host our bot on Microsoft Azure, which is required for integration with Teams. This project not only meets the immediate needs of the CS department but also lays the groundwork for future enhancements in online collaboration.
