Heat exchangers are ubiquitous across all fields of engineering. Recently, a class of mathematically defined surfaces called the Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMSs) have emerged as promising potential surfaces for heat exchangers, owing to their continuously curved geometry and natural mixing promotion. In this project, I have developed a set of Python scripts that allow me to functionally generate and modify a TPMS surface in a number of useful ways and export to a 3D-printable mesh file. Additionally, I have developed a similar workflow for smoothly combining a TPMS with an existing STL file, making it possible to join TPMSs with conventionally created CAD geometry. Finally, an exploratory CFD conjugate heat transfer study was performed as a proof of concept for future work.
