Abstract
At UNH, sustainability data is often siloed within individual labs, stored in disconnected systems, and rarely reused outside of the original project. The Sustainability Data Hub (SDH) is a prototype framework designed to address this fragmentation by enabling researchers to discover and access datasets and analyses across the university, without requiring changes to their existing tools or workflows. Built on the open-source metadata platform DataHub, the SDH acts as a connective layer between storage, analysis, and visualization systems. Our prototype demonstrates this concept through integrations with PostgreSQL, AWS S3, and Apache Superset, and includes an evaluation of CKAN as a storage solution for datasets not currently hosted in managed environments. In addition to building and testing the technical components, we developed a roadmap outlining the governance, infrastructure, and community engagement necessary to scale this project across the university. By emphasizing flexibility, interoperability, and ease of adoption, the SDH provides a foundation for a long-term shift toward more open, collaborative, and data-driven sustainability research at UNH.
