Abstract

This senior design project focused on the complete redesign and fabrication of an off-road vehicle for the Baja SAE competition, an intercollegiate challenge organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. This project involved a comprehensive rebuild of all major systems: frame, suspension, drivetrain, and controls. The vehicle was engineered to withstand extreme terrain while maintaining optimal performance in acceleration, maneuverability, and durability. The team applied multidisciplinary knowledge through CAD modeling, FEA simulation, and hands-on fabrication in the university machine shop. Each subsystem underwent rigorous testing to ensure compliance with SAE regulations while keeping performance metrics in mind. The completed vehicle demonstrates significant improvements in structural integrity, weight distribution, power delivery, and overall performance capabilities compared to previous iterations, positioning the club competitively for the upcoming multi-event competition that will test the vehicle's acceleration, hill climb ability, maneuverability, and endurance.
