Abstract
90% of our planet’s coral reefs are at risk of bleaching and death as a result of worsening ocean conditions. As the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, the extinction of coral reefs would be catastrophic to marine flora and fauna. In response to this critical environmental threat, ECO-CRAB is researching the resource demands, total cost, and feasibility of small-scale ocean chemistry balancing, and designing a reef restoration system which operates on this principle. While our system does not attempt to resolve rising ocean temperatures, it increases natural reef resilience to changing ocean conditions through localized fertilization, similar to a hobbyist home aquarium.
