Abstract

Quad-X Swarm's Aerial Satellite Testbed for Research Applications (ASTRA) worked to develop a hexacopter with a secondary on-board flight control system using compressed gas. This year's project is the first year of the project tasked with developing a fluid subsystem allowing for translational motion as well as developing mathematical equations used to model the system's pressure and thrust as a function of time. The subsystem operates at a frequency of 5 Hz or 10 Hz depending on the user input and outputs a thrust of 1.24 N at 100 psi. There are on-board sensors monitoring the pressure system as well as the hexacopter's dynamics. These sensors have layers of filters in order to provide accurate data.
