The Souhgan River Pedestrian Trail project aims to connect two pivotal trail endpoints separated by US Route 3, a heavily trafficked thoroughfare. In collaboration with the Town of Merrimack and H.L. Turner Group Inc., University of New Hampshire students have devised a comprehensive trail route and design to overcome this obstacle. Various options for crossing US Route 3 and trail configurations have been explored, utilizing engineering techniques such as a retaining wall for slope stability and a replacement design for Beam 6 under the Chamberlain Bridge. This interdisciplinary effort culminates in a pragmatic and sustainable solution tailored to Merrimack's needs.
