Abstract

This project was presented to the University of New Hampshire Civil and Environmental Engineering seniors by the H.L. Turner Group regarding the design of an addition to Bow Elementary School. Located at 22 Bow Center Road, Bow, New Hampshire stands the existing elementary school. Built in 1978 with a recent addition in 1991, the school spans around 57,500 square feet. With the population of Bow increasing by around 9.4% from 2010 to 2021, the current school can no longer house all incoming elementary students. Therefore, an expansion was proposed to the northeast portion of the building. This will include a two-story addition (four classrooms on each floor), a partial basement, and small group spaces, combining to an additional 12,200 square feet. For this project, sustainability, site, foundation, CMU walls and pilasters, and framing options will be explored to provide the town of Bow with a structurally stable addition that can maintain itself over the weathering years.
