Fort Hill Rail Trail Project (Team 12)

A team of students enrolled in the civil engineering course CEE 797, Project Planning and Design, at the University of New Hampshire has been retained by the Monadnock Rail Trail Collaborative to provide a finalized design concept for the redevelopment of the 1.8-mile abandoned Boston and Maine railroad line between Bridge Street in Brattleboro, Vermont, and 987 Brattleboro Road in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. The old railroad line, built in 1911, is planned for redevelopment into a recreational path for use by pedestrians, cyclists, and snowmobiles as a separate link from New Hampshire Route 119 between the two communities, with scenic viewpoints along the Connecticut River and the Fort Hill railroad truss bridge. These improvements will be undertaken to help address the lack of alternate modes of transportation between the two states and promote safer and greener modes of travel. Services to be provided include site surveys, site visits, acquiring field data, project phasing, schematic design, design development, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates for any alternatives and finalized designs that this project may bring.
