Abstract

Our research project aims to address financial problems and facilitate transactions by developing a web-based application aimed at consolidating the student economy. The proposed platform enables students to buy, trade, and offer services involving used or new goods such as textbooks, tools, and living essentials, with a focus on local transactions. The application is built using a technology stack including React.js, Shopify’s Hydrogen, Remix, Oxygen, and Node.js, offering a seamless integration for both front-end and back-end development. The front-end design employs JavaScript and Tailwind CSS, with specific functionalities powered by React and Remix frameworks. Oxygen facilitates real-time updates and continuous development by interfacing with the Shopify store via multiple APIs. Preliminary feedback from campus surveys indicated a preference for a specific layout design, leading to suggestions for additional features such as item descriptions, search filters, and expanded categories. Despite the project not yet being deployed and therefore lacking direct impact on the student economy, these insights highlight potential for significant contributions once fully operational. Challenges encountered include navigating the complex tech stack, gathering a comprehensive student survey, and lacking a deployed website to measure real-world impact. Future plans involve deploying the website to gather substantial evidence supporting the efficacy of this platform in facilitating a more sustainable and economically viable environment for college students. This will not only validate the project but also refine its capabilities to serve the targeted user base effectively.
