Abstract

The Active Alert Scheduler is a dynamic scheduling and navigation app designed specifically for UNH students to aid in time management and campus navigation. The app receives a user's class locations and times and generates a route between their current location and their next class. The app utilizes the Google Maps API to calculate the route, as well as the estimated time of arrival based on current location. Based on the ETA, the app sends an alert to the user when they should leave to make it to their class on time. The app uses a Python server utilizing Flask to store data on the academic buildings on campus; this data is received by the app's JavaScript via fetch request for use in the API requests. The JavaScript also generates an interactive map that displays the generated routes, and HTML and CSS provide a user friendly UI. The app continues to make fetch requests to the API at a constant rate, allowing the alert time to remain accurate even as the user moves. The app currently exists as a website, and full mobile integration via React Native is currently underway. Other features, such as bike routes, custom locations, and user preferences stored on the Flask server are in development.
