Abstract
Since its adaptation, Virtual Reality(VR) has been a solution to various applications from many fields of study. This project aims to continue building upon the implementation of VR infrastructure for the USS Albacore, a 1953 unique research submarine parked at its museum in Portsmouth, NH. The existing infrastructure consists of Meta Quest VR headsets and a central PC utilized by visitors to the museum. Feedback from the current product became a starting point for this ongoing project. Incorporating an audio tour and more expansive areas accommodates many users by making the sub more accessible. Accessibility is this project’s aim. Many museum visitors cannot access the submarine site due to physical disability, financial needs, psychological limitations(claustrophobia), or proximity to the sub. Therefore, this project forgoes improvement by designing two additional rooms in the submarine, audio components, and enhanced overall graphics. Making the end user’s experience creates a more instructive and enjoyable time when virtually interacting with the submarine. Conclusion: an eloquently developed and designed virtual reality final product effectively delivers the above experience to the end user, thus bettering their overall encounter with the museum.
