Abstract

Unregulated concentrations of iron in the body can lead to a derivation of apoptosis, known as ferroptosis which is a triggered cell death. The Fenton reaction is a process in which iron reacts with peroxide to create reactive oxygenated species (ROS) which is really threatening to the body. To sequester labile iron from organelles, a variation of a Szeto-Schiller peptide was made using solid phase peptide synthesis. In the creation of this peptide, there was strong evidence of stereoisomers. This project focusses on converting an analytical reverse phase HPLC into a chiral HPLC so that we can isolate and purify the stereoisomers that were produced.
