Abstract
Our group has developed an efficient and scalable synthesis of dibenzochrysene, DBC. This structure provided a palette for many explorative chemical routes discussed in this research. Application of a new method for Birch type reduction failed to work with DBC, although a newer mechanochemistry method is being explored. Dibenzochrysene also failed to undergo photodimerization. A different project consisted of a new method for hydrogen atom catalyzed reactions and was investigated using a microwave reactor. The experimental starting substrates also failed to promote the reaction. Lastly, our group has discovered a new 2-alkynylbiphenyl to phenanthrene photodimerization. A novel structure for the reaction was prepared and is being studied.
