Abstract

The Sheehan-Basquil Park Renovation Project was awarded to Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc. by the City of Manchester. The project was divided into three phases: Phase I has been completed and includes a soccer mini-pitch and new parking lot; Phase II is underway with plans for sidewalk improvements and the installation of a splash pad; and plans for Phase III will focus on pool upgrades. This Senior Capstone project was tasked with developing a recommendation for Phase II, along with cost estimates, a tentative project schedule, and a Phase III conceptual design. The project team considered several factors while developing the design, including neighboring park features, community input, stormwater management, and geotechnical and infrastructural concerns. Furthermore, the designs aim to improve the sense of community and safety in the local area, while adhering to the $730,000 budget for Phase II. The project team decided that Phase II should include the following components: splash pad, playground upgrade and relocation, walkway improvements, removal of fencing, multipurpose field, skatepark and rain garden. The cost estimate of this design was $623,600 which is $106,400 under budget.
