Abstract

Mallego Road Bridge Abstract Gabe Archambault, Tyler Moore, Gordon Hoyt The purpose of the Mallego Road Bridge Project is to design and replace a failing corrugated metal pipe culvert in Barrington, New Hampshire. This project was made possible by Hoyle Tanner & Associates in conjunction with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. The town of Barrington noticed during recent storm events that the south side of the road near the culvert started to flood. Along with flooding, the bridge received a poor rating on its last bridge inspection in 2015. The CMP has 25% section loss under the waterline with 100% section loss throughout the base of the pipe. Our design team completed an alternative study, cost-analysis, 1-D/2-D hydraulic study, and structural analysis to design a replacement structure. The proposed design was a 26-foot clear span precast concrete rigid frame bridge with concrete spread footings. The bridge will have a 9.2-foot frame leg height, a 1.67-foot deep deck slab, and be 30 feet wide. The bridge will have 45 degree skew to Mallego Road.
